QUAKERS IN NORTH AND WEST CUMBRIA
West Cumbria Area Quaker Meeting
We are trustees of a long tradition which has sought to bring our religious convictions into the world 'and so to excite our endeavours to mend it'. We are trying to live in the virtue of that life and power that takes away the occasion of all wars.
London Yearly Meeting, 1987
There is a well attended Quaker meeting in Keswick. All are welcome whatever might be their beliefs or non beliefs.
The Meeting House is situated in Elliot Park opposite the town's largest supermarket.
As well as the main meeting room the Meeting House has a kitchen, a common room, a library, a Young Friends' room, toilets and showers. There is a spacious loft which has provided a dormitory style accommodation on occasions. The Meeting House often serves as a venue for Keswick Churches Together. It is also used for many secular activities as well, mostly for further education classes and meetings of local societies.
During the year a number of social events are arranged which take place at the Meeting House, including a summer and a Christmas tea. There is usually a summer outing which involves visiting places of Quaker interest.
Sunday: 10.30 - 11.30 a.m. followed by tea/coffee in the common room. Mid-week on Wednesday: 12.30 p.m., followed by a packed lunch in the common room at 13.00, which is followed by a discussion on some particular topic. |
September 11th: Worship
September 18th: Equality
September 25th: Our Spiritual Journeys
October 2nd: Faith in Action
All sessions run from 6.30 until 9.30 starting with refreshments
